COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Higher National Diploma in Food Technology (HNDFT) program at the Sri Lanka Institute of Advance Technological Education (SLIATE) is an advanced, vocational qualification designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in food science and technology.

This course covers a broad range of topics including food chemistry, microbiology, food processing and preservation, quality assurance, and food safety management. Students gain hands-on experience through laboratory work, internships, and industry projects, preparing them for careers in the food industry.

The HNDFT program also emphasizes the development of problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and an understanding of the regulatory and ethical aspects of food production. Graduates are well-prepared for roles in food production, quality control, product development, and food safety, as well as for further studies in food science and related fields.

The HNDFT program is a diploma program of two and a half (2 ½) year duration.The program will be offered in a course unit system in semesters. Hence the program comprises five semesters, each of 15 weeks in duration.The program's first 4 semesters consist of coursework and the last semesters of in-plant training.The total program consists of 85 credits.All the 85 credits contribute to the GPA of the program.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

  • School levers with G.C.E (A/L) qualifications in Mathematics, and Bio-Science streams at one sitting.
  • Minimum of an ordinary pass for English and Mathematics in G.C.E. (O/L).
